Dear Wahidudin Khan Sahab

Asalamonalykom

This in reference of your article Kashmiris Must Abandon Illusions And Embrace Reality. Published on newageislam.com on 23jul2010.I was really pleased when I went through your recent write up yesterday 10.8.2010 when a beloved friend of mine told me about this article.

I had gone through your different articles but this is your first article regarding Kashmir I read.

I personally thank you as a Kashmiri for your kind attention towards Kashmir. But there are many things which needs your kind attention particularly your 3 points of first paragraph of your article like; Impractical politics, pragmatic politics and progressive Kashmir. It would have your great service for the region if you could have concentrated on the issue properly and would have write Indian leadership should abandon illusions and embrace reality.

You rightly pointed out things but rather addressing to people of Kashmir you should have addressed to India.

Have you ever thought about political geography of Kashmir which is being shown in your geo pol. map or of Pakistan or China? If yes kindly go through International political maps of United Nations also and check the geo political position of Kashmir, then tell us who is living in imaginary world, the people of Kashmir or people of India and their leadership.

You kindly ask any Indian scholar or politician or a common student to point out the Kashmir in Indian geo political map, then judge who is feeding imaginary longings, Indian leadership or Kashmiri Leadership. Because majority of the people will put their figure on either on China occupied Kashmir or Pakistan administered Kashmir.

A Part of Kashmir which is under China’s occupation, India is showing it, its own national territory. Other part of Kashmir which is under Pakistan’s administration is also showing as its national territory and rest is under her administration. Kindly tell me who represents imaginary longings India or Kashmiri leadership.

The Kashmiri leadership is just asking for justice to world’s biggest democratic country India to give us democracy.

They ask India what happen to your promise given to world body in UN’s general assembly. Is this imaginary longing of Kashmiri leadership?

Existing realities:

I am failing to understand what you mean by existing realities. I think you should come out from the scenario when there was debate on accession to Indian or Pakistan. This the period of politically awaked young generation of Kashmir who are able to judge better for their future. They stand for pre 1947 Kashmir An Independent Kashmir not part of India or Pakistan. You can see every kashmiri is chanting slogans for Aazadi (Independence) not for Elhaq (Accession).

No one in Kashmir hates India or Indian people but they hate India’s Kashmir Policy. And this is the existing reality. And we admit that we can’t survive without friendly relations with our three neighbouring countries India, Pakistan and China. While as you need to admit that fate has not decreed for us to be part of India or Pakistan.

I as a Kashmiri admit that militancy has damaged Kashmir and Kashmir’s cause and not served Kashmir in any way. I also admit there is no military solution for Kashmir. An Independent Kashmir is only solution for the Kashmir dispute. And it becomes moral duty for India to Abandon illusions and embrace reality and chalk out modalities for Independent Kashmir with Pakistan, China and Kashmir.

As India accepts Kashmir is a unique issue must be admitted by everyone and not try to compare with any local issues in India.

I would like to conclude here with your 3 points as under:

Impractical Politics: It is India who promotes impractical politics and needs to be practical and avoid saying Kashmir as its integral part while having its constitutional article 370. Accepting Kashmir’s separate status, separate flag. Separate High court etc and after 63 years control over Kashmir ongoing public resentment continues. World also has not accepted Kashmir as part of India, Pakistan or China.

Pragmatic politics: India needs to translate the meaning of article 370 and speak out that Kashmir is a disputed territory needs to resolve.

Progressive region: India needs to play Big brothers role and invite Pakistan, China and Kashmir leadership and frame political geography of Independent Kashmir so the new beginning of progressive region will start its course.
